SUMMER CONCERT SERIES AT LA CASA AZUL BOOKSTORE
SATURDAYS IN JULY AND AUGUST
Enjoy high-quality musical entertainment on Saturday afternoons in July and August at La Casa Azul Bookstore! From tribute artists to jarocho music and classical music, the Summer Concert Series showcases professional musicians from a wide range of musical backgrounds and is a perfect event for the entire family.
Food will be available for sale, as a fundraiser for the Becas Scholarship Program.
Becas is a program that offers scholarships that range from $4500 to $6030 to CUNY undergraduate and graduate students who meet three criteria: academic excellence, financial need, and commitment to service in the Mexican community. The scholarship primarily aids students with little or no access to other funding sources.
POLICIES
- Concert seating is general admission, ticket holders are seated on a first-come-first-served basis.
- You may purchase tickets at the door on the day of the show if any tickets are still available. You must pay cash for these tickets. We cannot take checks or credit cards at the door.
- All concerts are scheduled to take place in the outdoor venue, but held in the gallery in case of rain.
- Performances take place rain or shine.
- No smoking, alcohol or outside food is allowed.
- Please note, the entry to La Casa Azul Bookstore requires walking down two steps.
The event spaces (gallery and back patio) are both in lower levels. If you will need accommodations during an event, please include that information in your rsvp email, rsvp.lacasaazul@gmail.com

Radio Jarocho plays son jarocho music fashioned after the towns, musicians, and swampy countryside that created it in Veracruz, Mexico. They also write their own songs and tailor them with assorted influences, creating a contemporary repertoire that captures the spirit of the traditional style.Tickets: $10, if pre-purchased online.

Saturday, August 2, 3:00pm – 4:30pm
Cassandra Oliveras considers the Bolero repertoire a blazing counterpart to the American Songbook; its melodies timeless, and truths universal. She has performed as a soloist and choral singer in venues throughout NYC and in Paris.
She is both artist and arts administrator, currently working at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in NJ.Tickets: $10, if pre-purchased online.

Saturday, August 16, 3:00pm – 4:30pm
Having studied classical technique and repertoire for over 20 years, Chelsey Green incorporates principles of standard classical music performance into the performance of original tunes and re-identified popular favorites in genres across the board including Soul, Gospel, R&B, Jazz, Funk, Rock, and more!
Named an Artists-in-Residence at The Music Center at Strathmore in 2010, Ms. Green is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Maryland College Park.
